August’s Film: Dying to Know

Alpert and Leary interviewA 2014 film featuring Timothy Leary and Ram Dass, narrated by Robert Redford, exploring the friendship and experiments of these two iconic figures.

This documentary focuses on Timothy Leary, Ram Dass and their cosmic LSD connection.

In the early 1960s, two conventional Harvard professors began probing the edges of consciousness. Over the next five decades, the two greatly impact modern thought, Alpert and Leary street sceneTimothy Leary, as a counter-cultural legend and Richard Alpert as Ram Dass, a spiritual teacher. As one person says in the film, they ended the 50s.

When Timothy Leary learned that he was dying, the first person he called was Ram Dass, knowing that he would understand. The two re-ignited their friendship as Leary journeyed toward his transition.

Featuring footage of past interviews as well as more current conversations between the two, this film looks at Alpert and Leary in 60sremaining conscious when approaching death.

Gay Dillingham’s film, narrated by Robert Redford, offers an intimate portrait of an epic friendship, through life and into the next realm.
