Another Alternative: A Family-Directed Home Funeral, on family-directed home funerals and green burials.
Bay Area Funeral Consumers Association (BAFCA) is a chapter of a national nonprofit organization of volunteers who help inform and protect consumers when shopping for funeral goods or services. Families seeking a more active role and greater ownership in the care of their dead are reclaiming after-death care and fostering the death positive movement.
A home funeral or family-directed funeral is the process caring for the body of the departed in the home without intervention by a funeral director. Families can c
hoose to do this alone or employ the services of a Home Funeral Guide or Natural Death Care Consultant to navigate the process. Family-directed funerals are often followed by a green or natural burial. These burials emphasize simplicity, ecological conservation, and environmental sustainability.
This event is free to the public. A social hour, refreshments and funeral planning resources will also be available from the Bay Area Funeral Consumers Association free of charge.
