Diverse Cultural Perspectives on Dying
Recorded May 18, 2023
- Barbara O’Hare/African American
- Joe Castillo/Mexican American
- Kuenga Lhendup/Buddhism in Bhutan
The contrast of sharing from our panelist was mind expanding, passionate and highly informative as each answered questions from us at Final Passages and from our listeners. Thank you all for your great questions and your donations to help sustain our Final Passages events, trainings, scholarship funds and our mission.
We thank Barbara, Jose and Kuenga for their gracious sharing of time, wisdom, humor and different approaches to dying and death. We heard a beautiful song from Barbara and she shared that “in the Nazarene faith lackluster songs at a memorial are thought to be abominable.”
Kuenga spoke about an astrologer being called in after a death to decide the best day for a cremation and Jose mentioned families creating Ofrendas as a way to honor their dead and the belief that the soul needs guidance in the afterlife. We hope you will listen to this fascinating conversation and share it with many others.
